There are a few Rhino jewelry add-ons out there, such as RhinoGold, RhinoJewel (TechGems), Matrix, Solutech.; they all bring impressive capabilities to Rhino. T-Splines is also beginning to be used a decent amount in jewelry.
I would like to get in touch with jewelry designers who use T-Splines in conjunction with one of these other Rhino plugins, perhaps to use T-Splines for part of the jewelry piece, and a jewelry plugin for the rest. I'm interested to hear how well we integrate. Feel free to comment on this thread or email me directly: mattATtsplines.com. It is the first time I have similar feeling modeling in mudd- wax or directly forging metal.
From an basic shape I can develop variations quickly and of course I mix nurbs poligons and Ts objects. There are only a few things annoying me during my workflow: 1.when I cut lines each other the layer a changing to the curent layer 2.when Im working in SmoothPreview the manipulator are on the real controlpoints and not on the points I see 3.Rhino do not recognize TSsurfaces as one using comands like splop or orient Last week I give an introduction of TS in a jewellryschool and the teacher who gives Rhinolessons was impressed about the interest of his students. At the evening we speek about it and we figure out the reasons. Modeling with Ts is very closly to do it in traditional ways and smal amount of theoretical explanatorys they create interesting and individual objects after 3 hours.
An other point is that you get what you see without caring about naked edges and other idiosyncrasies of nurbmodeling. Teaching TS is to jewelers is the natural way to convince them to use the computer and if they want more I wil start with nurbs. Any way to used Ts and Rhino capabilities together promis a great future! Calvo Poster Posts: 150 Joined: Sat Jul 05, 2008 3:02 pm Location: barcelona •. Yes, this can be improved. It is in our bugtracker. This should be fixed in the next WIP. These commands work on rectangular parts of the T-Spline, but I think that is the best we can do. Until this patch is released we recommend to TechGems users NOT to update to Rhino 4.0. Users of TechGems 4.0 can download the free upgrade to TechGems 4.1.
That TS do not recognize surfaces as one have the same reason as for trimmed surfaces? Calvo, I don't think I understand your question, but maybe I can give some information that will help. There are no trimmed T-Splines yet.
When you do trimming on a T-Spline, we change it to NURBS first, and then you can do trimmed NURBS. T-Splines are not built of many separate surfaces.
As long as you stay inside T-Splines, it is all one surface. This is why it does not fall apart. But when you change it to NURBS, it becomes many surfaces (polysurface). Rhino does not know what a T-Spline is. So, for all native Rhino commands, we change to a NURBS, and Rhino understands the NURBS. Even though it is only one surface to us, Rhino sees it as many surfaces, because Rhino can only see the NURBS.
I hope that helps. Employee Posts: 560 Joined: Thu May 26, 2005 2:15 pm Location: Provo, Utah •.
The Thran J Robert King Pdf Editor here. Hi Adam Maybe you dont understand my question but you give me the right answers. It will be possible in the future that rhino can import it as one surface or TS will export it as one nurbsurface, puh it seams quite difficult!
But maybe its possible to mislead rhinocomands when a dozend of surfaces have continuiti, humm I have to speak with Alex from techgem, we will use it a lot setting stones, 'but not only setting stones'. Hi Matt, In this days I take a deeper look into the new version Rhinojewel 5., beside the confortible specialized tools, they develop a very jewellery orientated workingplace. The best is, I can still reach my rhinotools in the way I was used maybe better, because its a good layout for widescreen.
I hope Rhinojewel will do the same for TS but on the other side of the screen. Before, I only use the tools when I need them, but now I will test there workingplace for a while. Take a look, the version 5 is well-thought-out. Calvo Poster Posts: 150 Joined: Sat Jul 05, 2008 3:02 pm Location: barcelona •.
