The model is a Gigabyte GA-K8NS Ultra-939. I actually did get it to install, I had to download the Silicon Image 3512 Base Driver for Vista 64bit, since I am using the SATA interface vs IDE on the mother board.

Not sure if the IDE would work, most likely it would. The SATA interface utilizes the Gigabyte Raid Controller (Silicon Image 3512) and can be used in RAID and BASE (Non-Raid) mode. I was installing the 64bit version and was able to find the 64bit driver from Silicon Image website. It does look like there is a NForce3 driver for the AGP to PCI bus in device manager under system. Im not sure if I will have any problems with that and stability in the future, hopefully they are reliable. I know the Realtek AC97 audio driver was not detected and the Silicon Image 3512 was not detected and drivers not loaded.

But everything else seems to be ok from what I can see. So Microsoft please add the Silicon Image 3512 driver for 32bit and 64bit on final release. The latest NForce 3 drivers if possible. I need IR Drivers for a HTC Vista Ultimate Remote. I for one am very excited about the potential of Windows 7, so far it seems very responsive. I hope they continute to make it faster and supper stable.

Good work Microsoft, keep it up. I cant wait for release date to finally have a quick and stable system. Even XP SP3 seems to not be stable at times, Vista has always felt slow, even with SP1.

I just want to get things done quickly!:-) I hate the spinning circle and waiting for the OS to deal with unstable (Other Venders Software), Could be browser related, or other software. IE 7 is always unstable, IE 8 seems a better so far. Anyway I am going on a rant now. Thanks for eveyones support and trying to help!

I'm sorry for possibly bumping this topic but I found the title matching enough to what I experience with this new version of windows, as well as the previous (Vista), hence I prefer posting in an existing thread rather than making a new one with possible moderation actions being taken against me. I currently run Windows XP Pro (as it suits my needs best for now) on a Nforce3 based motherboard, which has an AGP port for graphics cards and an AM2 socket for Dualcore AMD Processors and newer. It's the ASrock AM2NF3-VSTA.

As it states on the website it supports Vista apparantly, but to no avail when I try to upgrade to Vista. Installing works like a charm, driver support on the other hand is weak, and in this Windows 7 it still has the same lack of drivers. I don't blame Microsoft for this, but nVidia, but still, any sign of hope for nforce3 support in either Vista or 7 would be so revolutionary. The reason is widely known for using an AMD dualcore processor, an ATI agp graphics card and an nforce3 based mobo.

It's quite sad of nvidia to put the Vista-ready logo on those mainboards when there is infact a flaw in their drivers. If anyone has an idea to resolve this, which I hope for, it's the reason I'm posting on the technet forum of the OS developer, I would be more than happy to thank you a million years. Ps: I tried both 32 and 64-bit of both Vista and 7. None has driver support for the combination of hardware I mentioned above. Once again we encounter the 'he said, she said' scenario of MS and signed drivers.

For the benefit of smoother running of the OS MS insists on the utilisation of signed drivers - this should mean that your hardware issues would be minimalised - having said that though this doesn't stop MS from supporting inferior products with little or no longevity (certain modems for example). As a point of interest Apple have a similar setup with it's vendors. It's all about OS integrity. The fact is that the issue between Microsoft/Silicon Image/NVidia has been in existance since Server 2003 x64 - neither side seems to want to appease the other and it's a sad fact that the loser at the end of the day is the end user. My concern is the amount of perfectly good hardware that goes to landfill purely because three major players in the IT market fail to reach any kind of agreement - this is not the only example of this problem but it's one that I have had experience with before - BTW my issue ties in with a Shuttle SN85G4 barebones which utilises the NForce3 chipset and Sil3512 SATA controller, works great with XP64/Debian. Come on MS - you're the major player here surely there is something that can be done to iron out this 6 year old problem once and for all.
