The reason you are not able to install SharePoint Foundation is probably because you haven’t correctly modified the config.xml file in the installation Source folder. As you can see in the post above it’s necessary to modify the file to tell the installer not to check for OS version. To do this you will have to have the Source files placed in a folder where you can edit the file and save the changes. If you are using a read only media such as a CD og DVD you must copy the files to the local harddrive before modifying the file. If you have downloaded the single file web installer package you need to extract the package before you modify the file.
To extract the web package run the file With parameter /extract and the path to where the files should be extracted. If you have any problems just let me know.
